 Resource Smart Program

Sale College is now part of the national framework for sustainability in schools, The Australian Sustainable Schools Initiative (AuSSI).

Resource Smart Schools is the umbrella that links the wide range of sustainability programs available to Victorian schools.

Integrating state and federal programs, Resource Smart Schools brings together a consortium
of sustainability educators and delivery organisations to help schools minimise waste, save
water and energy, promote biodiversity and cut their greenhouse gas emissions.

As a result of student initiatives in the Year 9 Buckland program, the Guthridge Campus became
a Resource Smart School in 2007.

In 2008 the student’s activities culminated in the school being awarded the Victorian Resource Smart Secondary School of the Year in the category of waste.

The school has made a declaration of commitment to practise Resource Smart initiatives which promote:

We aim to implement and achieve these goals through:

Curriculum focus : This is the main focus with many areas of the curriculum using the topic of the Environment as a basis for studies.

Whole School Community Involvement: Communication with the community

Our school is using a Schools Energy Tracking System (S.E.T.S.) an online tool that enables students and staff to log in record, monitor and use data on our resource consumption.

We are continuing efforts, as one of 60 Resource Smart Aussi Vic schools, to work through a Core Module to achieve sustainability accreditation in the above categories.

This is under the guidance of C.E.R.E.S. Community Environmental Park and Sustainability Victoria.
